Undergraduate Internship Program in Europe

Application & Requirements

Applications for The Europe Center's summer Undergraduate Internships in Europe open each December and provide opportunities for students to intern at leading European think-tanks, universities, and cultural and transnational organizations.

Funding

Grants of $6,000-$7500 (depending on duration) are awarded by The Europe Center along with each internship to cover the cost of travel and basic living expenses. Interns are required to complete a survey about their experience after their return and are expected to post regularly to the Global Student Fellows Blog while abroad.

Internship Format

All internships are held in person, pending any changes to University policy. Some host organizations may request interns onboard virtually during the end of Spring quarter prior to starting in country.

Eligibility

The applicant must currently be an enrolled undergraduate at Stanford and in good standing.
The applicant cannot have their undergraduate degree conferred before the completion of this internship.
Seniors who will be returning to coterm for all of next year are eligible to apply.
Global Studies minors in European Studies will receive preference for these internships sponsored by The Europe Center.
Internships will be conducted during the summer: June 14, 2027 to September 1, 2027 for 5-8 weeks.
The Europe Center does not sponsor visas for these internships and students are responsible for ensuring they have the requisite travel documents.

Applicants must submit a completed online application form, including a resume and unofficial transcript of Stanford courses.

Selection Process

Students selected for interviews will be contacted prior to February 10, 2027.

CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences

The Bock Lab, based at CeMM and the AI Institute of the Medical University of Vienna, investigates single cells in their spatial and temporal context – as building blocks of organ function, drivers of human disease, and programmable cell-based therapies. In ongoing work that the visiting student will actively contribute to, we employ AI-driven enhancer design and cell engineering to develop intelligent therapeutics for solid cancers and aging-related diseases.

Mia Schaubhut University of Salzburg intern

University of Salzburg, ATHENA Center

Interns are hosted by the ATHENA Center for Intersectional Research, directed by Zoe Lefkofridi, Chair of Politics & Gender, Diversity & Equality at the Department of Political Science, with researchers from 17 countries. Both ATHENA and the Dept of Political Science operate bilingually, with English as the primary working language and German as a secondary language. Interns may also spend two weeks working on Austrian Politics in Comparative Perspective under the supervision of Reinhard Heinisch, Chair of Austrian Politics, Dept of Political Science.

University of Vienna, Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET)

Three research internships available. Project 1: Monitoring the flow of goods in the Austrian arms industry and among Austrian arms dealers between 1954 and 1994. Intermedia German required. Project 2: Digitization of archival materials with Jannis Panagiotidis. German not required. Project 3: Daily press discourses about class and upward mobility in the 1940s and 1950 with Agata Zysiak. Reading ability in one of: Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Slovenian, or Romanian.
